Disclaimer: While the i-Tree Tool is great for providing an overall assessment of canopy, it does not always tell an accurate account of urban canopy. North Sydney Council (NSW) has been regularly monitoring canopy cover as a key performance indicator since 1997. North Sydney’s results differ from this report, particularly in relation to the canopy cover trend, where canopy cover is in fact declining, having decreased from 33.9% in 2008 to just 27% in March 2020.

AESTHETICS & VALUE

green cover is important

While grass is great for recreation, green cover is what creates many of the other big benefits, like keeping suburbs and homes cool and giving shade for walking, running and active transport.

It also brings wildlife into suburbs and makes them more appealing to the eye which, in turn, can make them more valuable.
